Administrative Staff
Jillian Christen
Director of Education
Jillian Christen – New Frontier & Crossroads Program Director
Jillian was born and raised and still lives in Northeast Iowa. She graduated from Upper Iowa University with a degree in Instructional Strategist II ID/BD/LD. She taught the high school classroom at Crossroads Academy for 5 years before stepping into the Program Director position. She will be graduating from University of Northern Iowa with her Master of Arts in Education Principalship in 2024. Her free time is spent with her husband and 3 kids. Jillian has a passion for working with people and believes that everyone can learn, it’s about finding the right approach and giving them the tools to succeed.
Joeann Tesar
Human Resources/Administrative Assistant
Joeann Tesar – New Frontier & Crossroads Human Resources/Administrative Assistant
Joeann has worked for Clinicare for 14 years and in her current capacity with the Alternative Schools for 11 of those years. Originally from Chicago, she is a self-taught muralist with many years of experience teaching art to students of all ages and capabilities. Active in many local theatre groups, she enjoys connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Amanda Knutson
Elementary Teacher
Amanda Knutson – New Frontier Elementary Teacher
Amanda was born and raised in Gays Mills, Wisconsin. After her high school she attended Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin where she received a double major in Psychology and Business Administration. After college she spent 3 years working with children with Autism. She made the shift to residential work in 2012 where she worked at Wyalusing Academy. In 2014 she began as the social skills facilitator at New Frontier for 3 years and made the jump to teacher after earning her teaching license and master’s in education in 2020. Outside of work she is very busy with her niece and nephews attending their various sporting events, an avid high school basketball fan (Go Trojans!), and volunteers in her community.
Pamela Schuett-Follon
Middle School Teacher
Pamela Schuett-Follon – New Frontier Middle School Teacher
Pamela was born in Watertown, WI. She and her husband have two sons and two grandchildren. Pamela graduated from Rice Lake Technical College with an accounting degree. She then attended the University of Eau Claire, WI, and received her bachelor’s degree in Special Education. She graduated with high honors. After moving to Valder’s WI, she taught at Valder’s High School for 7 years. During this time, she received her Master’s Degree from Silver Lake College as a Behavior Specialist. She then accepted a teaching position for North Fayette Valley Community School District where she taught middle school special education as a behavior specialist for 11 years. Mrs. Schuett-Follon retired from public teaching in 2022. However, she still wanted to help students with special needs, so she joined New Frontier in 2022. She and her husband have two lovely cats: Ollie and Shira. They spend their extra time traveling.
Tiffanie Mezera
High School Teacher
Tiffanie Mezera – New Frontier High School Teacher
Tiffanie grew up in small town in central Wisconsin. She moved down to southwestern Wisconsin when she went to UW-Platteville. Tiffanie graduated from UW-Platteville in 2014 with a B.S. in Animal Science. After graduation, she then moved to Prairie du Chien where she married her husband and started working on his family farm. Tiffanie found her passion in special education when she started working at a daycare and then working as a para and a substitute at Prairie du Chien High School and New Frontier Academy. She is currently working on going back to school to receive her teacher certification in special education. When Tiffanie is not working, you can always find her on their double dairy farm with her husband and their 3 young boys where they milk around 250 dairy goats and 100 dairy cows. When Tiffanie and her family are not farming, they are cheering on the Green Bay Packers football team, attending a few Brewer baseball games in the summer or having some friends over for some good conversations over a fire pit.
Lynzye Pulvermacher
Behavior Support Specialist
Lynzye Pulvermacher – New Frontier Behavior Support Specialist
Lynzye is a native of Madison, Wisconsin joining New Frontier in 2019 where she is the jack of all trades. She worked as a paraprofessional in the classrooms, 1:1 aide, transportation director, and behavioral support specialist. She has a unique way about her that the students gravitate toward. When not working, she does in-home care for the elderly and enjoys tubing, camping, and spending time with her two sons.
Jessica Hoeffer

Jessica Hoeffer – New Frontier Lead Paraprofessional
Jessica is a high school graduate of Prairie du Chien and began attending college as an education major. Deciding education wasn’t the right path (jokes on her) and went to work at Wyalusing Academy as a paraprofessional. She made the shift to New Frontier where she has been there for 11 years. At New Frontier she is often referred to as the teacher’s right hand as she is always prepared and ready for anything. Jessica is a huge Packers and Badgers fan despite living in Iowa. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.

Kirsten Richardson
Elementary Teacher
Kirsten Richardson – Crossroads Elementary Teacher
Kirsten was born and raised on a farm around Riceville Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from there in 2011. She grew up on the farm with her one brother Ryan and her two half-brothers Reid and Reagan. Kirsten also has 3 step brothers and 1 step sister. Kirsten received her teaching degree from Upper Iowa University and was a cheerleader while she was attending college. Kirsten has two fur babies named Millie (cat) and Scout (therapy dog in training) that live with her. When Kirsten is not teaching school, she spends a lot of her time outside on the farm, fishing, hanging out with friends, and spending time with her family.
Mary Bishop

Mary Bishop – Crossroads Middle School Teacher
I have a BA in elementary education and a masters in special education. I have taught special education for 22 years and three years as an elementary teacher. My teaching experience has included teaching in the public school with the majority of my special education experience working with at risk students in northwest Iowa. This is my sixth- year teaching at the middle school level at Crossroads. I have two adult sons who live in Minneapolis and Iowa City. I moved back to my family farm where I live with my husband who farms the land and raise beef cattle. I enjoy gardening and canning with my husband. I enjoy canoeing and play Granny basketball in the winter.
Sarah Ferguson
High School Teacher
Sarah Ferguson – Crossroads High School Teacher
Sarah was born and raised in NE Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2003 and then moved to Arizona, where she earned a Master of Arts in Education. She was a teacher in Arizona before moving to Hong Kong, China and teaching English for three years. After her time abroad, Sarah moved back to her hometown in NE Iowa where she continued working within education at Upper Iowa University, and then taught Art to grades Kindergarten through 12th before eventually joining Crossroads Academy last year as a paraprofessional. This year Sarah is the High School teacher at Crossroads and the Art teacher at New Frontier Academy. Sarah's hobbies include spending time with her two boys, Gage and Cole, and her dogs Finny and Red. Sarah enjoys fishing, hiking, and camping with her boys in her free time.

Crystal Moellers – Crossroads Behavior Support Specialist
I am the Behavior Support Specialist at Crossroads Academy in Decorah, Iowa. I grew up in rural Gunder, Iowa. Home of the 1lb Gunderburger. I attended Hawkeye Community College for Police Science and NICC for Human Services. I have been with the Academy for 3 years now. Prior to that, I have worked with children and adults with various mental health diagnoses and intellectual disabilities, within their homes and communities for 20 years. I am a farmer’s wife and have 3 boys. Ages are 16 years, 10 years, and 4 year old. In my free time, I spend time with my boys participating in fun outdoor activities, watching them play sports, gator rides, going on day trips, and doing chores around the farm/home.
Kelly Cook
Lead Paraprofessional
Kelly Cook – Crossroads Lead Paraprofessional
Kelly has worked for Crossroads Academy since the fall of 2007, prior to that she worked at Wyalusing Academy which was part of Clinicare Corporation. Throughout the years at Crossroads Kelly has had the pleasure to work with all ages of the students who attend. She is currently the lead para in the High School classroom and part of Crossroads leadership team. When not at work Kelly enjoys camping, the outdoors, and spending time with her family. She has 2 beautiful daughters, 6 energetic and adventurous grandchildren, and don’t forget her spoiled doggy Harvey John.
